Ballot Measures After John Laird's detailed and informative talk at the Democratic Party Clubs' Ballot Measure Forum on September 8, 2016, Santa Cruz for Bernie members made the following endorsements on behalf of our group. While a 2/3 vote is required, all the votes were unanimous or nearly unanimous.
Measure Z - YES Monterey County ballot measure to ban fracking.*
51 - YES School bonds. Funding for K-12 school and community college facilities.
52 - YES State fees on hospitals. Allows Federal Medi-Cal matching funds.
53 - NO Requires statewide voter approval for any bonds over $2 billion.
54 - NO Requires legislation to be posted for 72 hours before vote. All sessions on public access video.
55 - YES Tax extension to fund education.
56 - YES Tobacco tax to fund healthcare, tobacco use prevention, research, and law enforcement.
57 - YES Allows shortening of criminal sentences, changes how juveniles are sentenced.
58 - YES Supports non-English immersion classes in public schools. Repeals Prop 227.*
59 - YES Campaign finance. Instructs legislators to amend US Constitution to overturn Citizens United.*
60 - NO Requires condoms to be used in adult films.
61 - YES Establishes pricing controls for State prescription drug purchases based on lowest VA contract prices.*
